For Mental Health Awareness Week, a community member stepped forward and asked if we could share her perspective on mental health and mental illness. Today, we share Mei Sze’s thoughts.
My name is Mei Sze (Macy) Phung, and I’ve had schizoaffective disorder since around 2011-2012.
I feel that every time I have a symptom, the medicines are increased rather than treating the root cause. In the Shamanic View of Mental Illness, those who have mental crisis are healers trying to bridge the living and the spirits, with the spirits merging with the living to convey messages that would heal the living.
My visions are quite out of the ordinary. My visions talk about making peace, unity and harmony. The visions show about The Garden of Eden of the first man and woman. Generation after generation, we suffer, but there’s always hope.
My visions showcase a pristine world. Soon the earth will incarnate into its next
incarnation.
Thoughts of a mentally-heightened girl ~
There’s so much that I bottle in, and I don’t want to sugarcoat reality
Cycle after cycle, we celebrate the same holidays, the same events and happenings so that we don’t repeat history.
But when this cycle and the world enters its next incarnation, I will be ready
I feel like I am beyond my years
But the curse lingers forward
If we can break the curse, there will be paradise
I understand truth and reality
