Speaker(s)
Speaker: NAMI CC Volunteer, Kaycee Briones
Presentation: Mental Health & Connection
Meeting Description
The presentation for September 2026’s NAMI Contra Costa monthly General Meeting will be from NAMI CC blog contributor volunteer, Kaycee Briones, and her last blog post about wellness for September in recognition of Suicide Awareness Month. She has contributed by recently writing a piece titled The Psychology of Suicide: Understanding Pain, Connection, and Local Resources for Help, which explores psychological pain, what we can learn from research and theory, personal experiences with depression, and how we can better support people who may be struggling. We’ll also talk about having more open conversations about mental health, reducing stigma, and connecting people with local and nationwide
resources. Kaycee Briones is a first-generation college graduate, bilingual speaker of English
and Tagalog, and an educator who primarily works with students in Title I schools. She is passionate about making mental health conversations more open, accessible, and culturally relevant, particularly within the Filipino-American community. Having experienced mental health struggles herself, Kaycee has developed a strong interest in advocating for greater mental health awareness and
connection. Kaycee loves using her personal experiences, perspective, and work in the community to encourage honest conversation, reduce stigma, and remind others that they do not have to navigate difficult experiences alone. Through this presentation, she hopes to create a space for honest conversations about psychological pain, supporting others, and knowing where to turn for help. We will
save time for Q&A near the end.
