2026 Change Agent Appreciation Awardees

Announcing the 2026 Change Agent Appreciation Awardees for Individuals/and other Entities Making an Extraordinary Difference in Improving Mental Health Outcomes!

Selected Awardees were celebrated at NAMI Contra Costa and Mental Health Connection: “Together Against Mental Health Stigma” Honoring May as Mental Health Awareness Month on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at Todos Santos Plaza park from 11 am-3 pm.

Change Agent Award Categories

PEER VOLUNTEER – Jesse Ramsey, Certified Remix Recovery Peer Facilitator

For consistently demonstrating a selfless dedication of time, energy, and heart, serving as both an ambassador and a mentor to individuals who are often at the very beginning of their healing journeys.

FAMILY MEMBER VOLUNTEER – Arlene Koerner

In recognition of her six years of dedicated volunteer service, cultural advocacy, and community leadership as a recurring special speaker for both the Asian American Pacific Islander NAMI Basics and Family-to-Family programs.

ELECTED OFFICIAL – Supervisor Ken Carlson

For showing a deep and ongoing commitment to improving the lives of others, leading with compassion, integrity, and a genuine desire to connect with the people he serves.

EDUCATOR – Contra Costa College Service Provider Individualized Recovery Intensive Training Program (SPIRIT)

For believing in individuals with lived behavioral health experience or family members, combining classroom instruction with internships to prepare participants for careers as peer support providers and community support workers, focusing on recovery, wellness, and self-management.

LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY – Michael Parrish, Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department

For being a strong Ally and champion for improving outcomes for those who live with mental illness and have openly demonstrated your commitment to these lofty efforts. We appreciate your open communication as we mend wounds and align our efforts to work toward solutions that heal.
